THE PHOENIX 2023

The Great Eight are locked and loaded for the third edition of the world's richest greyhound race – The Phoenix, to be run and won on Saturday night December 16 at The Meadows. The Phoenix 2023 is worth $1.65 million overall and boasts a staggering $1 million-dollar first prize to be presented to the successful slot holder.

Back in late July individuals, businesses and organisations were invited to submit an application to purchases a $100,000 slot in the race. The Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association saw strong interest with application submissions, and when closed on September 1st, went into a review.

Former Premier of Victoria Dr. Denis Napthine AO has again lead the Independent Assessment Panel (IAP) who have the responsibility of selecting the successful eight slot holders.

After much deliberation and careful consideration, the following applicants have been selected as the slot holders for The Phoenix 2023.

This list holds a number of businesses who have participated in multiple Phoenix editions in the past, along with some first timers. MGRA CEO Scott Wuchatsch passed on this observation regarding the slot holder field for The Phoenix 2023.

“2023 sees an exciting mix of slot holders. We now have a number of high engagement perennials, again seeking the ultimate prize. There's also a trio of new faces, proving the demand to be a part of this amazing greyhound racing event is by no means slowing down.”

"On behalf of the MGRA we want to thank all the applicants who took the time to submit an application for a slot. Unfortunately there are only eight slots available. We'd love to see those who missed out on a slot this year, start putting in plans for the 2024 edition."
